Safal Women’s Cooperative Launches ‘Chandrasurya’ Turmeric Brand to Boost Women-Led Agribusiness

Bharatpur: Safal Social Entrepreneur Women’s Cooperative has launched its new turmeric brand, Chandrasurya, in Chitwan with the aim of promoting women-led entrepreneurship, agricultural value addition, and sustainable market opportunities for smallholder farmers.

The brand was unveiled at a ceremony in Jugedi, Bharatpur, attended by Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya, Minister for Cooperatives Binu Rayamajhi, senior government officials, representatives from the agriculture and cooperative sectors, development partners, private-sector stakeholders, and media representatives.

Produced by women entrepreneurs and farmers associated with the cooperative, Chandrasurya Turmeric seeks to provide consumers with quality turmeric products while improving income opportunities and market access for local producers.

The initiative has received support from Heifer International Nepal as part of its efforts to strengthen inclusive agricultural value chains, women-led enterprises, and market-oriented solutions for smallholder farmers. According to the organization, the new brand demonstrates the growing ability of women-led cooperatives to move beyond production and participate in higher-value agricultural businesses.

Speaking at the launch, Heifer International Nepal Country Director Dr. Tirtha Raj Regmi said the Chandrasurya brand reflects the leadership and entrepreneurial spirit of women farmers and cooperative members, adding that stronger market linkages can create sustainable economic opportunities for rural communities.

Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya said the initiative is an encouraging example of how women-led cooperatives can drive local economic growth through entrepreneurship and value addition. He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting rural enterprises, promoting local products, and empowering women as key contributors to economic transformation.

Minister for Cooperatives Binu Rayamajhi said the Chandrasurya brand demonstrates the benefits of collaboration among farmers, cooperatives, development partners, and the private sector. She noted that investments in value addition and market access are essential for building resilient agricultural enterprises that deliver long-term benefits to farming communities.

The cooperative expects the Chandrasurya brand to strengthen local agricultural value chains while encouraging the production and marketing of high-quality agricultural products from Nepal.

Established in Chitwan, Safal Social Entrepreneur Women’s Cooperative focuses on promoting entrepreneurship, value addition, and market engagement to improve members’ livelihoods and support local economic development.

Heifer International Nepal has been working with smallholder farmers since 1997 to build sustainable food systems. The organization says it has partnered with more than 400,000 farming families across Nepal through programs that improve productivity, market access, climate-smart agriculture, and income generation.
