In the world of Nepali Sugam Sangeet, many artists today seem to be in a race to gain popularity within a short period of time. Yet, amidst this growing crowd, there are artists who view music not merely as a means of gaining fame, but as a journey of dedication, discipline, and lifelong devotion.
One such artist is singer Prashna Panday. With her graceful personality, mature outlook, and deep passion for music, she continues to carve out a distinctive identity for herself in the Nepali music industry. Her journey reflects a genuine commitment to music and a belief that true artistry is built through patience, preserverance, and continuous dedication.
Prashna Panday was born on March 1985, in Chandragadhi, Jhapa. She grew up in a family surrounded by music. Her grandfather played the harmonium and sang bhajans, and the music that constantly filled her home sparked her love for art and singing from an early age.
However, coming from a middle-class family, her parents wanted their daughter to focus on her education and pursue a stable profession. Despite this, Prashna continued to nurture her passion for music alongside her studies. After moving to Kathmandu for higher education, she found the opportunity to build a strong foundation for her musical journey.
For deeper musical study and training, she learned classical and semi-classical music under the guidance of respected gurus Ram Sitoula and Prakash Gurung. She also completed a four-year Semi-Classical Music course at Anurag Music School, further strengthening her musical knowledge and skills.

She maintains a balanced perspective toward the culture of “instant stardom” that has emerged in today’s digital era. According to her, artists should use their creativity and performances to leave a positive impact on society. Since art is a language of emotions and sensitivity, she believes its dignity and integrity must always be preserved.
Acting, Education and Other Interests
Prashna has also gained experience appearing in several music videos. She considers acting to be a challenging and distinct form of art. In her view, singers should remain focused on their primary field of singing while respecting acting as a profession best represented by dedicated actors.
