Sarlahi: Police have arrested two people after recovering 743.98 kg of marijuana from their houses in Lalbandi Municipality-14, Daini Tole, Sarlahi.
A joint team from the Area Police Office, Lalbandi, and the Narcotics Control Bureau Office in Bardibas, Mahottari, conducted a raid at the houses of the suspects on Thursday based on a tip-off, according to Sarlahi Police.
Police arrested 67-year-old Nar Bahadur Thing and 52-year-old Jesun Maya Thing after finding marijuana concealed in drums and sacks at their residences.
During further investigation, police also discovered marijuana plants cultivated on around two katthas of public land behind a maize field in the area. The plants were subsequently destroyed, police said.
The seized marijuana and the two suspects have been kept at the Area Police Office, Lalbandi, for further investigation into the alleged narcotics offences.
The repeated recovery of large quantities of marijuana and the discovery of cultivation on public land highlight the challenges faced by authorities in controlling narcotics-related activities in Sarlahi.
