PM Balen Skips Key RSP Meeting for Unannounced Mustang Trip, Police Unaware

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah left for Mustang by road early Friday without prior announcement, skipping a crucial meeting of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Kathmandu.

Shah’s unannounced departure has reportedly left local authorities and party officials seeking information about the purpose and arrangements of his trip.

Travelling in an official vehicle through Dhading towards Pokhara, Shah is scheduled to spend the night at a resort in the Annapurna region of Kaski before proceeding to Mustang.

However, security officials in both Kaski and Mustang said they had not received prior information from the Ministry of Home Affairs or the Prime Minister’s Office regarding security arrangements for the VVIP movement.

Local RSP representatives and members of the prime ministerial secretariat also said they had not received official instructions regarding the purpose of the visit.

Shah’s departure comes as the RSP is holding a major Central Committee meeting at its Banasthali headquarters in Kathmandu.

The meeting is discussing more than a dozen organisational and policy issues, including rules for selecting candidates for upcoming local-level elections, organisational appointments and policy proposals such as the ‘Right to Recall.’

Shah’s absence comes amid a pattern of limited involvement in routine party administrative activities, despite his position as a senior leader and parliamentary party leader following the merger with the RSP.
