Kathmandu: The death toll from the Bhote Koshi flood disaster has reached 1,377, while 5,130 people remain missing, according to the latest government update issued at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 10.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said the number of missing people was revised after 104 identified bodies were deducted from the previous figure. Among those still missing are 587 foreign nationals.
Of the 1,377 fatalities, 364 were reported in Chitwan, 228 in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta Purba), 222 in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta Paschim), 198 in Nuwakot, 178 in Rasuwa, 77 in Gorkha, 70 in Dhading, 38 in Tanahun, and 2 in Kathmandu while receiving treatment.
In Rasuwa, 1,393 local residents, 1,286 people from other districts, 45 Army personnel, 12 Nepal Police personnel, 26 APF Nepal personnel, 25 government officials, and 73 employees of financial institutions and banks are reported missing.
Similarly, in Nuwakot, 651 local residents and 1,136 people from other districts remain unaccounted for.
So far, 13,656 people have been rescued, while 37 holding centers are currently operational. The centers are sheltering 2,615 people in Nuwakot, 775 in Rasuwa, and 295 in Dhading.
Medical and Rescue Response
As part of the medical response, 333 people have received treatment at 19 hospitals, of whom 256 have been discharged. The Nepal Army has provided medical treatment to 3,559 people, while the Armed Police Force, Nepal has treated 3,606 people.
The Ministry of Health has deployed more than 150 health personnel to provide psychosocial counseling in the affected areas.
The Nepal Army has conducted 1,348 helicopter flights, while the Armed Police Force, Nepal has carried out 272 flights. A total of 21,063 security personnel have been mobilized for rescue and relief operations, including 8,885 Army personnel, 7,975 Nepal Police personnel, and 4,203 APF Nepal personnel.
Relief and Essential Supplies
The government has provided Rs 10 million each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot, Rs 5 million to Dhading, and Rs 135 million to 15 affected local governments.
Relief materials are being transported continuously through both air and road routes, with supplies being recorded through the NDRRMA’s Setu App.
The current fuel stock stands at 48,000 liters of diesel, 22,000 liters of petrol, and 9,000 liters of aviation fuel. Meanwhile, 457 subsidized LPG gas cylinders have been dispatched to the affected areas.
DNA Samples for Missing Persons
The government has urged relatives of missing people to submit DNA samples at the relevant District Police Offices, along with two photographs and proof of relationship.
Authorities have cautioned that the number of people reported out of contact may include unidentified deceased or rescued individuals, as verification and identification efforts are still underway.
