Chitwan: Search and rescue teams have recovered 54 bodies and 28 partial human remains along the banks of the Narayani River and surrounding areas in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) over a three-day period from August 27 to August 29.
According to the Provincial Emergency Operations Center under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law, Industry, and Transport of Lumbini Province, the total recoveries were confirmed as of 10:00 PM on Saturday, August 29.
On August 27, authorities recovered 27 bodies comprising eight women, 16 men, one boy and two girls along with one body part.
Similarly, seven bodies and 12 human remains were recovered on August 28. On August 29, authorities recovered another 20 bodies, including five women, 13 men, one boy and one girl, along with 15 partial remains.
All unidentified remains are being kept in hospital morgues while official identification procedures continue under the direction of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Meanwhile, widespread flooding and disaster conditions have left 168 people missing across Lumbini Province, according to district-level data released by the ministry.
Dang remains the worst-affected area, with 41 people unaccounted for, followed by Rupandehi with 35, Banke with 20, Rukum East with 16, Rolpa with 14, Palpa with 11, Pyuthan with 10, Arghakhanchi with nine, Bardiya with eight, Gulmi with seven, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) with six, and Kapilvastu with four missing persons.
So far, 13 previously missing individuals have made contact with authorities, including six in Rupandehi, five in Dang, one in Banke and one in Pyuthan.
