Kathmandu: Nepal SBI Bank Ltd. (NSBL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ Nepal) under the Sustainable Electric Transport for Nepal (SET4NPL) project. The project is funded by the Mitigation Action Facility (MAF) and implemented by GIZ Nepal in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT), Government of Nepal.
Under this initiative, the project aims to promote the adoption of electric public transportation by providing incentives to Public Transport Operators (PTOs) and their financing partners, including Hire Purchase Companies and Bank and Financial Institutions (BFIs). The program plans to support the procurement of 3,500 electric micro and mini-buses (EMBs) by offering subsidies and technical support to PTOs.
Additionally, the initiative will introduce advanced digital and operational systems, including e-ticketing services, GPS installation, and the development of a central monitoring portal for vehicles operating under the program.
Through this partnership, NSBL aims to actively contribute to Nepal’s green mobility transition while reinforcing its role as a responsible corporate citizen and sustainable financing partner.
