104 Nepalis Among 261 Foreign Nationals Missing After Massive Landslide in China’s Gyirong

Gyirong: A major landslide at the Gyirong (Kerung) border crossing in the Xizang Autonomous Region of southwestern China has left 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries unaccounted for following the August 26 disaster, local authorities confirmed on Sunday.

The casualty figures were released during a press conference hosted by the regional government’s Information Office following joint verification efforts by the foreign affairs, public security, culture and tourism, and emergency management departments.

According to official data, the missing include 104 Nepali nationals, 49 from India, 33 from Latvia, 18 from the United States, 15 from the United Kingdom, six each from Canada and Australia, four from South Africa, and three each from Malaysia, Germany and Russia.

Additionally, two citizens each from Ireland, Estonia, France, the Netherlands and New Zealand are listed as unaccounted for, along with one national each from Kazakhstan, Finland, Lithuania, Portugal, Ukraine, Spain and Hungary.

Search and rescue operations remain underway at the border zone.
