Papenburg: YANGWANG, the premium sub-brand of BYD, has shattered the global electric vehicle (EV) speed record with its U9 Track Edition supercar, achieving a top speed of 472.41 km/h at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg test track in Germany. This milestone crowns the U9 Track Edition as the world’s fastest EV.
Built on YANGWANG’s e4 Platform and DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System, the U9 Track Edition combines quad-motor technology and the world’s first mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform. Together, they deliver over 3,000PS of power and a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217PS per tonne—placing it among the most extreme performance cars in history.
The e4 Platform’s independent torque-vectoring system, capable of adjusting wheel torque more than 100 times per second, ensures absolute stability even at record-breaking speeds. Meanwhile, the DiSus-X system actively optimises suspension dynamics, suppressing pitch and roll while maximising grip. This synergy allows the U9 to combine raw performance with safety and precision control.

To meet the demands of extreme track conditions, YANGWANG collaborated with Giti Tire to develop a bespoke semi-slick tyre featuring advanced compound materials, specialised tread design, and anti-slip wheel-rim technology for maximum durability, grip, and predictability.
The record-breaking run was piloted by Marc Basseng, the German professional driver who also set the previous EV speed record in 2024. Reflecting on his achievement, Basseng said:“Last year, I thought I’d peaked. I never expected to break my own record so soon but here we are, at the same track, with new technologies that made it possible.”
With this achievement, YANGWANG not only redefines the supercar but also reaffirms BYD’s mission of combining sustainability with cutting-edge performance. The U9 Track Edition is proof that electric mobility can push boundaries once thought unreachable, delivering both speed and innovation to a new era of supercars.
