New York City: The global technology community marked a historic milestone with the official launch of the World AI Alliance (WAA) in New York City. At the helm of this newly established nonprofit organization is Ujjwal Roy, a Nepal-born technology visionary and trusted government advisor, who has been appointed as its Founding President.
Launched on the 70th anniversary of Artificial Intelligence, the Alliance traces its intellectual roots to the landmark Dartmouth Summer Research Project of 1955 widely recognized as the birthplace of the term “AI.” The formation of WAA signals a renewed global commitment to ensuring artificial intelligence evolves responsibly and inclusively.
A Proud Milestone for Nepal
Roy’s appointment is being celebrated as a defining moment of pride for Nepal and the global Nepali diaspora. Chiranjibi Adhikari, Tech Entrepreneur and Senior Vice President of the CAN Federation, described the achievement as a monumental milestone for every Nepali citizen. He emphasized that Roy’s leadership of a New York-based global entity highlights the world-class capability of Nepal’s technology professionals.
A Legacy of Digital Leadership

- International Governance: Active member of the IEEE Ethical AI Committee, contributing to global standards for responsible AI development.
Advancing Ethical and Inclusive AI

A Global Movement
Headquartered in New York City, the Alliance unites leading experts in AI science, cybersecurity, and public policy. Supporting Roy in the leadership team is Suyog Parajuli, who serves as General Secretary and represents the next generation of Nepali technology leadership.
“The World AI Alliance is not just an organization. It is a movement,” said Founding President Ujjwal Roy. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure AI is built with transparency, fairness, and accountability for every human being on Earth.”
With its establishment in the United States, the World AI Alliance is poised to become a leading global force in shaping artificial intelligence as a force for good.
