Kumari Bank, FWEAN Partner to Promote Women’s Economic Empowerment

Kathmandu: Kumari Bank Limited (KBL) and the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs’ Associations of Nepal (FWEAN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote women’s economic empowerment, sustainable finance, enterprise growth and business resilience.

The MoU was signed by Chandan Karki, Chief Investment and Marketing Officer of Kumari Bank, and Darshana Shrestha, President of FWEAN. The partnership will focus on improving women entrepreneurs’ access to responsible finance, enterprise development, sustainable and climate-resilient investment, digital solutions, market opportunities and value-chain linkages.

The two organizations will also explore innovative financing mechanisms, including cash-flow-based assessments, movable-asset financing, guarantees and other risk-sharing arrangements to address financing challenges faced by women-led businesses.

Focus on Sustainable and Inclusive Finance

Arpan Paudel, Head of Sustainable Banking Department at Kumari Bank, said the partnership aims to combine FWEAN’s network with the bank’s sustainable banking capabilities to expand women entrepreneurs’ access to finance, markets and knowledge.

The collaboration will establish mechanisms for joint learning, impact measurement and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on enterprise growth, access to finance, employment, resilience and sustainable business practices.

Kumari Bank said the partnership is intended to create practical and scalable opportunities for women entrepreneurs and women-led enterprises across Nepal.

The bank plans to leverage its nationwide network to implement the initiatives across targeted communities. Kumari Bank currently has 279 branches, 294 ATMs, 41 extension counters, 40 branchless banking units and more than 1,200 POS terminals, along with digital and mobile banking services and international Visa card solutions.

The partnership will also focus on supporting green enterprises, stronger circular value chains, employment generation and climate-resilient business practices as part of efforts toward a more sustainable economic future for Nepal.
