Visa Strengthens Commitment to Nepal with New Office in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: Visa (NYSE: V), the global leader in digital payments, has officially inaugurated its dedicated office in Kathmandu, reinforcing its long-term commitment to supporting Nepal’s transition toward a digital and cashless economy. The opening marks a strategic milestone in Visa’s journey to broaden access to secure, convenient, and innovative payment solutions across the country.

To further deepen its engagement in the market, Visa also announced the appointment of Mr. Manoj Thapa as Head of Nepal. In this role, Manoj will focus on strengthening local partnerships and accelerating the adoption of digital payments to meet Nepal’s evolving financial needs. He will report directly to Sabbir Ahmed, Country Manager for Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan at Visa.

A native of Nepal, Manoj Thapa brings a global perspective shaped by his education and professional background in the UK and India. With over a decade of experience in the payments and financial services industry, he is known for his passion for using technology to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs), promote financial inclusion, and create sustainable, collaborative impact.

Prior to joining Visa, Manoj served as Head of Partnerships & Innovation at Fonepay, where he spearheaded cross-border payment initiatives and built impactful alliances with both local and international financial institutions. He has also held leadership roles at LivQuik Technology Pvt. Ltd. in India, where he drove key business development efforts contributing to the company’s expansion.
