Attack on peacekeepers in Lebanon: Major General Dhakal injured

Kathmandu : On February 15, in a concerning turn of events, UN peacekeepers in Lebanon were attacked. The assault targeted a vehicle transporting several peacekeepers, including Major General Chok Bahadur Dhakal, the Deputy Force Commander of the Nepali Army’s peacekeeping unit. The attack took place in Beirut, leaving Dhakal injured. Fortunately, he was promptly evacuated to a UN hospital, where it was confirmed that his condition is stable and he is no longer in danger.

Major General Dhakal was returning home after completing his mission in Lebanon. The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) expressed deep shock over the incident, emphasizing the critical role peacekeepers play in maintaining security and stability in southern Lebanon.

In response to the attack, the United Nations strongly condemned the violence, calling on the Lebanese government to swiftly investigate the incident and take appropriate action. The Lebanese Prime Minister and Armed Forces also vowed to carry out a thorough investigation, ensuring those responsible for the attack are held accountable.
