Kathmandu: Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) on Wednesday consulted federal lawmakers from five flood-affected districts regarding the situation arising from the Bhote Koshi River flood in Rasuwa and the ongoing search, rescue and relief operations.
At a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, lawmakers from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan briefed the Prime Minister on the damage in their respective areas, the condition of settlements along the riverbanks and the needs of affected communities.
The lawmakers also drew the government’s attention to the measures required to intensify search, rescue and relief operations.
Prime Minister Shah said the government was fully committed to protecting and assisting people affected by the disaster. He said relevant agencies had been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance in downstream areas and immediately relocate people at risk to safer locations.
Security personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been mobilized in the affected areas to intensify search and rescue operations.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shah had convened the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to review the latest flood situation and the progress of search, rescue and relief efforts.
