Kathmandu: Premier International IB Continuum School recently hosted a high-impact basketball masterclass led by internationally renowned coach, mentor, and sports development leader Nels Hawkinson, reinforcing the school’s commitment to holistic student development through sport.

The session brought together boys’ and girls’ school basketball teams along with players from the Premier Sports Academy Basketball Program, creating a dynamic learning environment for young athletes. Drawing on decades of global coaching experience, Hawkinson delivered an intensive one-hour masterclass focused on building on-court endurance, sharpening game intelligence, strengthening fundamentals, and applying practical techniques in real match situations.

A former player and coach at Trinity Western University and Seattle Pacific University, Hawkinson later emerged as a global basketball mentor through leadership roles with FIBA Olympic Solidarity and USA Basketball. During the session, he emphasized not only technical excellence but also the importance of discipline, resilience, and making the most of every opportunity in an athlete’s journey.

Beyond the game itself, Hawkinson encouraged students to look beyond the scoreboard, highlighting how mindset, preparation, daily habits, and off-court decision-making play a crucial role in shaping on-court performance. Students described the experience as humbling and eye-opening, noting that the masterclass helped shift their focus from short-term wins to long-term growth, responsibility, and personal development as athletes.

The masterclass was made possible through the collaboration and support of the University Sports Association of Nepal, whose partnership enabled Premier students to benefit from a valuable international learning experience.
