TikTok Expands AI Transparency With New Controls and Global Education Initiatives

TikTok has announced a new series of updates aimed at helping users better understand, identify, and control AI-generated content on the platform. The company believes that AI, when used responsibly and transparently, can inspire creativity, enhance discovery, and improve safety. These updates are designed to empower the TikTok community with clearer information and greater control over how they interact with AI content.

One of the key updates is the introduction of a new control for AI-generated content, which will soon be tested within the “Manage Topics” feature. This tool will allow users to decide how much AI-generated content appears in their For You feed. Users who enjoy AI-driven educational videos or creative storytelling will be able to see more of this content, while those who prefer less AI influence can reduce its presence. Instead of removing AI content entirely, this feature enhances personalization and ensures users retain access to TikTok’s diverse creative ecosystem. It complements existing customization options such as keyword filters and the “Not Interested” button.

To further strengthen transparency, TikTok is improving its AI labeling systems. The platform already uses multiple methods to detect and label AI-generated videos, including creator tags, AI detection technologies, and C2PA Content Credentials. To date, more than 1.3 billion videos have been successfully labeled. TikTok is now testing a new solution called “invisible watermarking.” These watermarks are embedded into AI-generated content in a way that cannot be seen or easily removed, even after editing or reposting. They are only detectable by TikTok’s systems, making AI labeling more durable, secure, and trustworthy. In the coming weeks, invisible watermarks will be added to content created using TikTok tools such as AI Editor Pro, as well as content uploaded with C2PA Content Credentials.

In addition to introducing new tools, TikTok is also investing in education. The company has launched a global $2 million AI literacy fund to support nonprofits and experts in creating educational content that helps users understand how AI works, how to identify AI-generated content, and how to use AI safely, responsibly, and ethically. Partners across more than a dozen countries will develop resources to promote media literacy, responsible technology engagement, and awareness of TikTok’s transparency features.

These advancements underline TikTok’s ongoing commitment to fostering trust, safety, and creativity within its global community. As AI technology continues to evolve, TikTok plans to expand its tools, safeguards, and partnerships to help ensure safe, transparent, and meaningful digital experiences for everyone.
