Pokhara: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has emphasized the need for good governance, accountability and results-oriented leadership, stating that the party must move beyond the traditional mindset of treating political power as its ultimate objective.
Speaking at a programme organized by the BP Memorial Library Gandaki Province in Pokhara on Tuesday, Thapa said the Nepali Congress would focus on addressing its weaknesses and strengthening internal unity.
He stressed the importance of bringing together leaders from both winning and losing factions in the party’s internal elections, arguing that capable individuals should not be deprived of responsibilities simply because they were unsuccessful in electoral contests.
Thapa also said the party would determine the dates for its provincial and district conventions after considering the upcoming local government elections. The matter is expected to be discussed at the party’s central committee meeting.
Highlighting the need to reconnect with voters, Thapa proposed launching a nationwide campaign throughout the Nepali month of Mangsir to engage traditional Nepali Congress supporters who have distanced themselves from the party in recent elections.
He further emphasized that the party should combine the experience of senior leaders with the enthusiasm and fresh perspectives of the younger generation to strengthen its organizational structure and regain public confidence.
