Kathmandu: Montra Electric, India’s full-spectrum electric commercial vehicle brand, has entered its first international market with the launch of its Super Auto electric three-wheeler in Nepal. The first batch of Super Auto electric three-wheelers was unveiled in Kathmandu through Montra Electric’s exclusive national distributor, HIPCO Trading Pvt. Ltd.
The unveiling was conducted by Aashish Gajurel, Member of Parliament from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, marking the official entry of Montra Electric’s flagship passenger three-wheeler into the Nepali market.
The Super Auto has been engineered with inputs from on-ground testing, local distributor feedback and the specific road and terrain requirements of Nepal, positioning it as a purpose-built electric mobility solution for the country.
Nepal is considered well-positioned for the transition toward electric mobility, supported by increasing electricity generation and the potential to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels. Government incentives and duty preferences for electric vehicles compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles further support the shift toward electric transportation.
For drivers and fleet operators, the transition to electric three-wheelers offers potential benefits through lower running and maintenance costs, while reducing exposure to fluctuations in fuel prices.
Built for Nepal’s Diverse Terrain
The Super Auto has been designed to meet the demands of Nepal’s varied road conditions, including hilly terrain. It offers 32 percent gradeability for improved performance on steep inclines and comes equipped with Hill-Hold Assist for smoother and safer starts on gradients.
The electric three-wheeler is powered by a 9 kWh battery pack paired with a PMSM motor, delivering 60 Nm of torque. It offers a claimed driving range of up to 150 km on a single charge and a top speed of 55 kmph.
The vehicle supports charging in approximately 4.5 hours and comes with multiple drive modes designed to adapt to different road and load conditions. These modes provide smoother power delivery for a more comfortable driving experience.
The Super Auto also features a fully digital instrument cluster, adding to its modern and technology-focused appeal.
For passenger and driver comfort, the vehicle comes with ergonomic dual-tone seating, an effective windshield and roof design, and increased headroom and legroom. These features are aimed at providing a comfortable experience across longer journeys and varying weather conditions.
The Montra Electric Super Auto is priced at NPR 8,64,900 in Nepal.
Speaking at the unveiling, Himanshu Golchha, Director of HIPCO Trading Pvt. Ltd., said, “Nepal’s roads are the backbone of the country’s economic growth. For too long growth has come at the cost of our fuel bill. The arrival of Super Auto is a welcome step toward last-mile transport that does not depend on imported fuel and does not add to the pollution. As we continue to encourage electric mobility across the nation, partnerships like this one help our transport sector move in step with aspirations of Nepal’s people.”
Montra Electric Enters International Market
Commenting on the launch, Arun Murugappan, Chairman, Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility Pvt. Ltd.), said the company’s entry into Nepal reflects its focus on developing engineering solutions around real-world requirements.
“Montra Electric’s entry into Nepal with the Super Auto reflects the Group’s long-standing belief that engineering excellence must serve real, on-ground needs, whether it is a farmer, a fleet operator, or a nation’s own energy ambitions. Our range is built to serve every stretch of that journey, from first-mile to last-mile mobility,” he said.
He added that Nepal’s renewable energy potential and Montra Electric’s mobility technology create a mutually beneficial opportunity for sustainable transportation.
Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility Pvt. Ltd.), said the Nepal launch represents an important milestone in the company’s international expansion.
“Our entry into Nepal is a defining chapter in Montra Electric’s journey as we transition from a leading player in India’s rapidly growing electric commercial vehicle sector to a global force in sustainable mobility,” Gupta said.
According to the company, its entry into Nepal demonstrates how electric mobility solutions can support economies in reducing dependence on conventional fuel and moving toward cleaner transportation.
Nationwide Sales and Service Network
Siddartha Jajodia, Director, HIPCO Trading Pvt. Ltd., said the introduction of the Super Auto marks the beginning of the company’s long-term plans for Nepal.
He said the company will provide nationwide sales, service, spare parts and customer support through its expanding dealer and service network. The partnership also includes plans to introduce additional products and further contribute to the development of Nepal’s electric mobility ecosystem.
The launch of the Super Auto marks Montra Electric’s transition from a domestic electric commercial vehicle player in India toward an international EV brand, with a focus on addressing the specific requirements of last-mile transportation in diverse markets.
