Kapilvastu: Kiran Singh, a former mayor of Kapilvastu Municipality, who had been missing since Friday evening, was found dead in a forest in Buddhbhumi Municipality on Sunday.
Singh, 65, had gone to Dhekhari forest along the Taulihawa-Gorusinge road, where he was preparing to establish a commercial farm. His family members and local residents had been searching for him since Friday evening.
According to police, Singh’s body was found around 600 to 700 metres north of the location where he was last traced. Local residents discovered the body at around noon on Sunday.
Police had intensified the search operation on Saturday, deploying a trained sniffer dog from a unit at Gautam Buddha International Airport and using drones to scan the forest. However, the search efforts did not locate Singh at the time.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
