Media should keep citizens’ voice in centre: Minister Dr Timilsina

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has said that the media should work by keeping the citizens’ voice and social welfare at the centre in the wake of the rapid development of information technology and growing influence of digital media.

At a programme organised here today on the occasion of the 126th anniversary of the Gorkhapatra Sansthan, Minister Dr Timilsina emphasized the need of meeting citizens’ expectations and trust towards the media.

He underscored the need to make state-owned institutions more professional and responsible, and directed employees to work in a responsible manner and stand accountable for the greater interests of the institution.
The Communications Minister stressed that solution-oriented thinking and a working style are necessary among employees.

He also voiced for the restructuring of the Gorkhapatra Sansthan. Recalling the long-history of Gorkhapatra, Minister Dr Timilsina opined that there have been extensive changes in the style, technology and methods of journalism over time.

He pointed out the need for Gorkhapatra to seriously review how to make itself unique, effective and credible media.

“Today is tomorrow’s history. The good deeds done today will guide the future. So work in a way to make the institution a place to be proud of,” he instructed the employees.

On the occasion, Minister Dr Timilsina unveiled a replica of the news pages of the Santhal and Hayu languages that Gorkhapatra has started publishing from today itself.
