Kathmandu: The Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play, the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025-26, has commenced at the Royal Nepal Golf Club, featuring the country’s top professional golfers.
Leading the first-round action, Bhuvan Nagarkoti delivered the most dominant performance of the day, defeating 15th seed Krishna Man Rajbahak 7 & 6. The No. 2 seed sealed victory on the 12th hole after going seven up with six holes remaining.
Top-ranked player Niraj Tamang secured a 3 & 2 win over Surya Prasad Sharma. Third seed Dinesh Prajapati registered a commanding 6 & 4 victory against Bal Bhadra Rai.
Similarly, fourth seed Sanjay Lama defeated Ramesh Adhikari 3 & 2, while fifth seed Jayram Shrestha advanced via a bye after his opponent was withdrawn on disciplinary grounds.
Other notable results saw Rabi Khadka beat Deepak Magar 4 & 2, while Tanka Bahadur Karki pulled off an upset victory over Dhan Bahadur Thapa by 2-up.
The quarterfinal matchups are set as follows:
- Niraj Tamang vs. Rame Magar
- Sanjay Lama vs. Jayram Shrestha
- Rabi Khadka vs. Dinesh Prajapati
- Tanka Bahadur Karki vs. Bhuvan Nagarkoti
The three-day match play tournament features the top 16 players from the previous season’s Order of Merit. Quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, while the 36-hole final will take place on Friday. The losing semifinalists will compete in an 18-hole playoff for third place.
The tournament carries a total prize purse of NPR 425,000, with:
- Winner: NPR 100,000
- Runner-up: NPR 75,000
- Third place: NPR 56,000
- Fourth place: NPR 42,000
Quarterfinalists and first-round participants will also receive cash prizes, ensuring broad recognition for competing professionals.
