BYD’s 14 Millionth New Energy Vehicle Rolls Off the Production Line in Brazil — President Lula Becomes the Proud Owner

Camacari: BYD has reached a historic milestone as its 14 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) officially rolled off the production line at the company’s passenger car plant in Camaçari, Brazil, marking a new chapter in BYD’s global expansion.

The ceremony was graced by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Chinese Ambassador Zhu Qingqiao, Bahia Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, and BYD Chairman and President Mr. Wang Chuanfu, along with senior government officials and BYD employees who together celebrated this landmark occasion.

With this achievement, BYD has become the first new energy vehicle manufacturer in the world to reach the milestone of 14 million units. During the ceremony, Mr. Wang Chuanfu presented the 14 millionth vehicle a BYD Song Pro as a special gift to President Lula.

In his address, President Lula expressed pride in BYD’s presence in Brazil, highlighting the company’s positive impact on local communities and industry.

“BYD should be very proud this factory restores dignity to the people of Camaçari and Bahia. You have every opportunity to make history, to build the most sophisticated and fastest cars on Earth. This honor will belong to Bahia, to China, and to Brazil,” said President Lula, commending BYD’s commitment and expressing appreciation for its contribution to Brazil’s development.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Wang Chuanfu, BYD Chairman and President, thanked the governments of China and Brazil, along with the company’s partners and customers, for their enduring support.

“BYD has been operating in Brazil for more than 11 years. Our electric buses have become a familiar sight across cities nationwide. Today, BYD has more than 170,000 car owners in Brazil and has been the sales leader in the country’s new energy vehicle market for two consecutive years. In Brazil, BYD is not just an investor, it is a long-term partner,” said Mr. Wang.

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Mr. Wang also announced that BYD will provide 30 customized new energy vehicles for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), scheduled to take place later this year in Belém, Pará. These vehicles will serve as low-carbon shuttles during the event and will later be donated to local schools and public institutions, continuing to support Brazilian communities and green mobility initiatives.

In recognition of BYD’s growing influence, the Legislative Assembly of Bahia recently approved the renaming of the main road in front of BYD’s Brazilian plant to “BYD Road.” This marks the third “BYD Road” worldwide — following those in Lancaster, USA, and Rayong, Thailand and the first in South America, further underscoring BYD’s expanding global footprint.

Looking ahead, BYD will continue advancing its strategy of “integrating internationalization with localization”, deepening its industrial presence in key global markets. Guided by innovation and sustainability, the company remains dedicated to promoting the transformation and green development of the global automotive industry.
