Government Has Mobilized Full Strength for the Elections: Prime Minister

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that the government has mobilized its full strength to conduct the elections in a free, fair, peaceful, and fear-free environment, aiming to open a new era of sustainable democratic stability in the country.

Addressing a special समारोह held today at Tundikhel Army Pavilion on the occasion of National Democracy Day 2082, she expressed confidence that the parliament and government formed through the elections will further advance democracy as a more vibrant, result-oriented, and accountable system.

Prime Minister Karki emphasized that a strong democracy should not suppress dissatisfaction but instead accept it as an opportunity for reform. “Democracy should no longer be viewed merely as a technical change in the form of governance. It is, in fact, a way of life. It should be reflected in everything from freedom of expression on the internet to the price of vegetables cooked in the kitchen,” she said.

Stating that democracy is not just a process, the Prime Minister said it must deliver results. “The rule of law is essential, but entangling citizens in procedures in the name of process, causing delays, harassment, and suffering is not the practice of democracy. That is disorder,” she said.

Noting that the current government has taken the voice of the Gen Z movement seriously, the Prime Minister clarified that the government’s efforts are directed toward transforming good governance, transparency, equality, and accountability into practice.

Expressing hope that Democracy Day would inspire value-based politics, accountable governance, and prosperity with social justice, the Prime Minister stressed that the nation must become a common home of equal opportunity and respect for all citizens. “The main challenges to our democracy are corruption, the dominance of limited groups over resources, and impunity. The primary reason our villages are becoming empty due to the migration of a large youth population is also this,” she said.
