Kathmandu: TikTok has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Election Commission, Nepal (ECN), to support election integrity initiatives in the country. The agreement was exchanged during a program held at the ECN premises today.

As part of the collaboration, a TikTok delegation conducted a capacity-building Election Integrity Workshop focused on promoting responsible digital engagement, combating misinformation, and strengthening awareness of election integrity among key stakeholders.

Ahead of Nepal’s 2026 General Elections, the workshop introduced ECN officials to TikTok’s approach to safeguarding electoral processes on its platform. The session covered TikTok’s Community Guidelines, policies on misinformation, political content, and deceptive behavior. Participants were also briefed on platform tools and features that enable users to access credible information, report potential violations, and better understand how election-related content is moderated.

Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations, South Asia at TikTok, stated, “Elections are a critical moment for any democracy, and TikTok recognizes its responsibility as a platform that helps shape public discourse. Through this partnership, we aim to support informed participation, promote election integrity, and provide a safe space for positive digital expression.”

Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the Election Commission, Nepal, welcomed the collaboration, stating, “The Election Commission welcomes this partnership with TikTok as part of our ongoing efforts to promote election integrity and responsible use of digital platforms. Collaborations like this help strengthen public awareness around misinformation and support informed civic participation during the electoral process.”

TikTok stated that it will continue working closely with ECN and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen election integrity and maintain a reliable information environment for the Nepali digital community. As a global platform, TikTok emphasizes that safeguarding election integrity is vital for maintaining user trust, reducing misinformation risks, and promoting healthy civic engagement.
