Kathmandu: Škoda India has shared real-world fuel efficiency insights for its entry-level SUV, the Škoda Kylaq, offering customers a transparent and practical view of performance beyond laboratory-certified figures. Powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a manual transmission, the Kylaq carries an official ARAI-certified mileage of 19.68 kmpl. Recent real-world tests now highlight how the SUV performs under everyday city and highway driving conditions.
City Driving Performance
In urban conditions, the Kylaq was tested over an 80-kilometre stretch featuring stop-and-go traffic, frequent traffic signals, and heavily congested roads. During this drive, the SUV consumed 7.49 litres of fuel, delivering a mileage of 10.68 kmpl. While this is lower than the certified figure, it accurately reflects real-world city driving, where constant braking, idling, and gear changes naturally increase fuel consumption.
Despite the challenging conditions, drivers reported that the Kylaq remained responsive and easy to handle, offering confident low-speed maneuverability and smooth progress through dense traffic.
Highway Efficiency
On the highway, the Kylaq demonstrated notably stronger efficiency. During a 91-kilometre highway drive at cruising speeds between 85 and 95 kmph, the SUV consumed 6.49 litres of fuel, achieving a mileage of 14.02 kmpl. This performance reinforces Škoda’s reputation for long-distance capability and driving stability.
The result echoes the brand’s engineering pedigree, recently highlighted when a Škoda Superb set a world record by covering 2,831 km on a single tank of fuel. Under smooth, uninterrupted highway conditions, the Kylaq’s engine operated at optimal efficiency, delivering a composed, comfortable, and stable long-distance driving experience.
Real-World Perspective
These findings underline a key reality of modern vehicles: certified mileage serves as a benchmark, while real-world efficiency varies based on traffic conditions, driving style, and road environments. For daily urban commuters, the Kylaq offers responsive performance and manageable control, even though mileage may differ from test-lab figures. On highways, the SUV proves significantly more efficient, making it well-suited for intercity travel, weekend getaways, and longer journeys.
Balanced Performance for Everyday Use
Combining practicality with performance, the Škoda Kylaq delivers a balanced blend of power, comfort, and efficiency. The manual gearbox provides enhanced driver control, particularly valuable in urban driving scenarios where precise gear modulation improves comfort and drivability. While real-world mileage naturally varies, the Kylaq’s overall capability positions it as a dependable and compelling choice in the entry-level SUV segment.
Growing Anticipation in Nepal
In Nepal, anticipation for the Škoda Kylaq continues to build ahead of its expected launch, as customers increasingly seek compact SUVs capable of handling urban congestion as well as long-distance highway travel.
Through these real-world tests, Škoda aims to offer customers a transparent and realistic understanding of the Kylaq’s everyday performance. With its efficient powertrain, responsive handling, and comfortable ride quality, the Škoda Kylaq stands out as a strong contender for modern drivers seeking versatility, confidence, and practicality in a compact SUV.
