Kathmandu: The Sharad Chandra Shaha Memorial Foundation (SCSMF) successfully hosted the second edition of the SCSMF Sports Award 2025 during a grand ceremony held at Hotel Royal Singi, Kamaladi. The award, established to celebrate excellence and dedication in Nepali sports, recognized one veteran and one contemporary athlete for their outstanding achievements and contributions.
Honoring Excellence in Sports
This year’s SCSMF Sports Award 2025 was presented to:
Raju Kaji Shakya, legendary footballer and former captain of the Nepali national team, in recognition of his historic contributions both as a player and coach. Shakya captained Nepal to its iconic gold medal victory at the South Asian Games and remains a towering figure in national sports.
Aruna Shahi, current captain of the Nepali Women’s National Volleyball Team, honored for her leadership and pivotal role in the growth and success of women’s volleyball in Nepal. Under her captaincy, the team has achieved new international milestones and inspired countless young athletes.
Both recipients were awarded a cash prize of NPR 250,000 along with a certificate of honor.
About the Sharad Chandra Shaha Memorial Foundation
Founded on November 30, 2020, the Sharad Chandra Shaha Memorial Foundation commemorates the legacy of the late Sharad Chandra Shaha, a transformative figure in Nepali sports history. Shaha was the first Nepali to serve as Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and played a key role in launching the National Games and Olympic Movement in Nepal. He served as Member Secretary of the National Sports Council (1977–1988) and President of the Nepal Olympic Committee.
The Foundation’s mission is to support, encourage, and honor individuals and organizations striving for the development of sports in Nepal. Its past initiatives include:
A photo exhibition titled “The Dawn of a New Era in Nepal Sports” (in collaboration with the Nepal Sports for All Commission)
The publication of the book “Nepali Khelkudko Britanta” by Nabin Aryal, released on Ashar 26, 2080 (July 11, 2023).
Through such efforts, the Foundation continues to preserve the legacy of Sharad Chandra Shaha while promoting the advancement of Nepali sports and recognizing those who shape its future.
