Delegates Offered a Taste of Ilam Tea at Sagarmatha Sambaad

Kathmandu: Delegates attending the three-day Sagarmatha Sambaad dialogue in Kathmandu were treated to more than just discussions — they were offered a taste of fresh, organic Ilam tea, adding a cultural flavor to the international event.

A dedicated tea exhibition stall, coordinated by Suryaodaya Municipality, was set up at Hotel Soaltee, the main venue. Attendees had the opportunity to sample a variety of teas and purchase them as souvenirs, promoting Nepali tea on a global stage.

Prajwal Pradhan, Chairman of Ilam Tea Station, noted the enthusiastic response: “Our tea exhibition attracted many local and international visitors. We believe this has significantly contributed to promoting Nepali tea globally.”

The initiative, supported by the Nepal Tourism Board, included gifting Ilam tea to foreign guests and panelists. The idea was inspired by a successful tea-tasting retreat organized in Ilam for foreign diplomats on April 13, just ahead of the Nepali New Year 2082 BS.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, who also chairs the Sagarmatha Sambaad Management Committee, championed the concept after witnessing positive feedback from that earlier event. Her direction led to the inclusion of this cultural showcase at the Sambaad, aiming to strengthen the international presence of Nepali organic tea.

“This initiative blends cultural diplomacy with economic promotion, giving our guests a taste of Nepal’s finest,” said Dr. Deuba.
