MG has unveiled a new wave of advanced technologies, including its Hybrid+ system and SolidCore battery, aimed at significantly enhancing the performance, efficiency, and safety of its upcoming electric and hybrid vehicles.
The next-generation Hybrid+ system is currently under development at MG’s engineering center in Frankfurt, Germany, and is expected to debut in the upcoming MG S9. The system integrates electric turbocharging and advanced motor technologies designed to improve performance while reducing noise and vibration.
According to senior engineer Qiu Jie, the electric turbo featured in the Hybrid+ system is capable of spinning at speeds of up to 70,000 rpm. This innovation enhances both efficiency and power delivery, ensuring smoother transitions between electric and petrol modes.
A key highlight of the Hybrid+ system is its digital damping technology, which significantly improves ride comfort. The electric motor not only drives the vehicle but also actively reduces engine vibrations. Using advanced sensors, the system detects vibrations and calculates counteracting forces in real time, resulting in a quieter and more refined driving experience. This also contributes to improved energy efficiency by minimizing losses from heat and vibration.
To support these advancements, MG is incorporating a larger 1.83kWh battery into its hybrid vehicles, making them smoother, quieter, and more responsive compared to previous models.
In parallel, MG is preparing to introduce its next-generation semi-solid-state battery, branded as SolidCore, in an upgraded version of the MG 4 in Europe later this year. This battery, composed of approximately 95 percent solid material and 5 percent liquid, represents a major leap in battery innovation.
The SolidCore battery is expected to deliver higher energy density, enabling longer driving ranges, faster charging times, and improved performance across varying temperatures. It also offers enhanced safety compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. MG claims that even under extreme testing conditions (such as crushing or drilling) the battery does not ignite or produce sparks, significantly reducing the risk of thermal runaway.
With the integration of Hybrid+ technology and SolidCore battery systems, MG aims to redefine its future vehicle lineup by delivering cars that are more powerful, efficient, quieter, safer, and technologically advanced.
