Kathmandu: The House of Representatives Infrastructure Development Committee has directed concerned agencies to ensure smooth, safe and well-managed passenger movement during the upcoming Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals.
The committee issued the directives during its meeting on Monday based on suggestions and recommendations concerning the management of increased festival travel.
Committee Chairperson Ashish Gajurel said authorities have been instructed to deploy sufficient vehicles according to passenger demand, operate services from designated bus parks, sell tickets from specified locations and ensure passengers are picked up and dropped off only at safe places.
The committee also directed authorities to make transportation services accessible to persons with disabilities, senior citizens, women and children, while establishing passenger help desks and making necessary arrangements for travelers.
Focus on Road Safety
With passenger movement expected to increase during the festival period, the committee has called for advance assessment of road conditions and potential risks, along with preparation of alternative routes.
It also directed authorities to conduct technical inspections of vehicles, ensure adequate rest for drivers, enforce speed limits and prevent overloading.
The committee further called for effective implementation of the integrated bus park policy and better coordination among concerned agencies.
Ticketing and Passenger Services
To address possible ticket shortages, overcharging and other irregularities, the committee directed the concerned ministry to prepare and implement an action plan for easy ticket availability, enforcement of approved fares and an effective grievance-handling mechanism.
The committee also selected Member of Parliament Raju Nath Pandey as a member of the subcommittee formed to make public transportation smoother, more accessible, organized and dignified during the 2026 Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals.
Authorities have additionally been directed to ensure that passengers are not overcharged or misled regarding the prices or quality of drinking water, snacks and food sold during road travel.
