Kathmandu: On June 30, 2025, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) officially commenced production at two CTP2.0 (Cell-to-Pack) high-end battery pack lines located within the Seres Super Factory in Chongqing. This marks CATL’s first production base in Chongqing and its debut implementation of a “Factory-in-Factory” (FiF) model a move expected to redefine collaborative manufacturing in the EV sector.
This innovative FiF approach integrates core battery production directly inside the vehicle assembly plant, allowing agile modifications to production lines in under 20 minutes and enabling daily delivery of thousands of components all completed within the same day.
Dr. Robin Zeng, Chairman and CEO of CATL, remarked, “This production line is the most advanced intelligent and digital line in CATL’s history, highlighting our commitment to innovation and operational excellence.”
Strengthened Seres-CATL Partnership & Future-Forward Integration
The Seres-CATL strategic cooperation began in August 2022 and has since grown significantly. Under their renewed agreement, Aito-branded vehicles will feature CATL batteries exclusively for the next five years, including full integration of CATL’s latest Qilin battery technology.
Aito, a premium EV brand born from a collaborative project between Seres and Huawei, is not a joint venture. In July 2024, Seres officially acquired the Aito trademark and patents from Huawei for 2.5 million yuan (approx. USD 344 million). Huawei remains a key technology and component supplier and continues to sell Aito vehicles through its HIMA retail network.
With over 700,000 Aito vehicles already on the road, the Seres Super Factory in Chongqing serves as a cornerstone in the production of next-generation luxury EVs.
CATL Leads Battery Market While Advancing Green Manufacturing
According to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, total battery installations in China from January to May 2025 reached 241.4 GWh, a 50.4% increase year-on-year. Of this, CATL contributed 103.2 GWh, maintaining a 42.9% market share, though slightly lower by 3.83 percentage points compared to last year.
Beyond its EV battery dominance, CATL and Seres have jointly advanced toward zero-carbon goals. In April 2025, they completed and grid-connected the first phase of a 50 MWh distributed solar project at the Seres plant, further supporting the facility with core green energy.
